Dr. Sylvia Chien

The owner of Cantabile Music Studio, Dr. Chien, is an experienced solo and chamber performer and has given performances in Taiwan, Japan, Austria, and the United States (Miami Symphony Orchestra, Miami Bach Society, and Musica Nova Orchestra; Bowdin Music Festival, Pine Mountain Music Festival, Kent Blossom Music Festival…etc). She has received several awards from regional piano and viola competitions in Taiwan since an early age. She received her master’s degree at the University of Miami and a Doctoral of Musical Arts in viola performance at Arizona State University with the Teaching Assistant scholarship.

As a professional performer and teacher, Dr. Chien believes that every student has the potential to succeed in becoming a fine musician as long as they maintain consistent perseverance towards achieving goals regardless of talents or physical advantages. Dr. Chien has over 20 years of teaching experience and specializes in training students from the age of four to adults for violin, viola, and piano at all levels. Many of her students have been awarded in Solo & Ensemble UIL and entered Region, All-state orchestras, and Houston Youth Symphony orchestras. Dr. Chien is a certified Suzuki instructor and applies the Suzuki method in her teaching. Students are guided to achieve the goals of playing with good tone, natural posture, and active listening abilities. Currently, Dr. Chien is the private lesson instructor for Clear Creek ISD and a member of the Clear Lake Symphony.
